Choir Profile
The Audite Nova Choir of Zug (Chor Audite Nova Zug) is one of the most eminent choirs in Central Switzerland. Founded in 1971 by Paul Kälin, it has been directed since 1999 to 2023 by Johannes Meister. As of 1 May, Philipp Schmidlin is the new artistic director of the choir. The choir has some 100 singers well balanced among all vocal ranges, and it mainly performs works from the choral-symphonic repertoire. As the name “Audite Nova” would suggest, a significant part of the choir’s activity is devoted to performing modern and contemporary music.
In its own varied concert programmes as well as guest appearances the choir sings with renowned professional orchestras and soloists, and its concerts take it to prestigious concert halls and prominent historic churches.
The choir’s singers are highly committed and share a common ideal of making music to the highest standards. Many take vocal lessons at the Music School of Zug or privately, which contributes both to their personal artistic development and the overall quality of the choir.
The choir is a member of the Swiss Choral Union (Schweizerische Chorvereinigung SCV) and the Swiss Federation Europa Cantat SFEC.
